In order to get started FrontlineSMS requires a GSM modem or a mobile phone to be connected to your computer. Please note that we recommend a GSM modem over a phone because they are much easier to set-up, are becoming increasingly affordable, and have a much higher capacity for sending and receiving messages reliably.

Because of technical differences between makes and models, not all GSM modems or phones will work with FrontlineSMS. Below you will find a list of some of the modems and phones which have been tested by the FrontlineSMS community of users.

Device reports explained

You can click on the name of a device to see whether it has been found to work successfully with FrontlineSMS. In each report you will see details of what the device has been tested with: the mobile network operator (mno), the platform, and the FrontlineSMS version. You will also see the name of the person /organisation who tested the device, details of the evidence of their report, and any additional notes.

On the right you will see different fields with ticks and crosses beneath them. If you hover your mouse over these fields you will see that this indicates different categories of functionality which FrontlineSMS can be tested with, and the ticks, crosses or question marks under each category indicate whether the device works, doesn’t work, or hasn’t been tested with that particular functionality.

If you have tested a device you can submit your own report by clicking on ‘New Report’ at the bottom of the screen. Once your report has been submitted it will be sent on to the FrontlineSMS team for approval, and will then be added to the database here.

Please check back here regularly to see new devices added, or visit the Community Forums, or contact the FrontlineSMS Team if you have any questions.
